The Raza Retinta livestock is bred in complete liberty and is left to graze on pastures, shrubs, branches and acorns, which guarantee the genetic quality of this indigenous Spanish race. They are mainly bred in Extremadura and Andalucía, in the Dehesas along with the Iberian pig and merino sheep, which contributes to the natural balance of the ecosystem.
In the past, these animals were used for heavy work, given their physical characteristics and capability for adaptation to their environment. The commercial presentation of Retinto Meat is veal, yearlings and young bulls. The veal is sacrificed at fourteen months, and is fed primarily on maternal milk, grass and vegetable based feed.
The yearling is sacrificed at twenty four months. The young bulls are sacrificed between twenty four and forty eight months, after having been free-range for the majority of their lives. Their diet is complimented with vegetable based feeds and hay.
The brand “Carne de retinto” guarantees the meat quality of all controls exacted by the consumer.
